WAFF 48 News Huntsville WAFF 48 News Huntsville was on aired from its Decatur studio on 4 July 1954 with call letters WMSL-TV channel 23. At this time it was possessed by a Decatur business Whisenant. WMSL-TV run the programs from four networks like CBS, ABC, NBC and DuMont Network. But the primary station was affiliated with NBC. It lost DuMont affiliation in 1955 and ABC in 1959. In 1963 it lost CBS affiliation when CBS signed the WHNT-TV.

It is also affiliated with NTA film network for some time. WMSL-TV started the programs on Channel 48 in January 1969. WMSL-TV began to on air the NBC programs for North Alabama on 1 September 1967. Whisenant sold the station to Vermont company in 1947. They renamed the station as

The Monte Sano studio of station caught fire on 24 March 1982. AFLAC invest the money to make the WAFF a better station in the early 1970s. Then the station gained popularity with NBC, and many popular syndicated shows broadcast from a station like Jeopardy, Oprah, Wheel of Fortune. In 1992 WAFF became famous for weather forecasting. AFLAC sold the station to Raycom Media in 1996. Famous news personalities of WAFF are Paull Buxton, Tom Kennemer, Bob Baron, Newsman Milwee, Roy Ackland, Jay Prater, Lee Marshall, Rudy Koski, Tim Hall, Glenn Bracken, Brad Travis and Kristin Tallent.
